Did anyone else know that the Twitter Bird, whose picture appears everywhere these days, is a football player? According to this article, the blue bird who has become the face of Twitter was drafted on Monday as the new starting quarterback for the Boise Bluebirds, a professional football team.
While Twitter fans might be surprised about the icon’s second vocation, bird football analyst Rex Haughton said that the internet’s favorite blue bird was a shoo-in at this year’s draft. “Most people don’t know this, but birds are great football players,” said Haughton in a telephone interview. “And Tweety’s been on the scouts’ radar screens ever since he threw a buzzer-beater touchdown during a college game two years ago.”
While some rookies perch on the bench their first year, Haughton expects “Tweety” to start for Boise immediately. “He’s got a hell of a throwing wing,” Haughton said, “and he knows how to read a defense, so expect him to put together plays.”
But don’t expect the Twitter Bird to stay in Boise for long, Haughton said. “I wouldn’t be surprised if we see Tweety throwing for an NFL team a year or two from now,” he said. “He’s destined for great things.”
