The athlete Brian Wilson, who plays pitcher for the San Francisco Giants baseball team, is apparently receiving a lot of compliments for throwing a new pitch that is, according to reports, especially-unclean. If I understand the story right, the pitch has such a revolting smell and ghastly appearance that batters don’t want to swing – they throw their hands up, step out of the batter’s box, and happily let Wilson throw three strikes so they can go back to the dugout.
I really like Brian Wilson, and there’s no doubt that his new pitch is good news for the Giants. But is this strategy sportsmanlike? Shouldn’t pitchers try to outduel batters instead of outgrossing them? What do you think? Please share your comments below.
